Reviews
Didn't know what to expect, menu had a diner vibe yet offering a family style dining experience. We felt really conflicted. Ended up ordering the fried cheese to start, saganaki and the grilled octopus. Needed something acidic to finish the dish. We ordered the vegetable platter for two which was huge, definitely grilled beautifully, the veggies. Paired with rice but didn't care for it. The falafel was too dry. We had an option of soup or salad, we each ordered one. The side salad was a good portion but I wish the dressing was more flavorful. The lentil soup was okay. I think if I were to return, I'd stick to the diner type fare. Service was very attentive and the ladies were pleasant. Not sure why I needed a reservation but noticeably there were two dining rooms. I was put into the casual side even with a reservation. Odd.
We came to visit New York with my wife and I wanted her to try some of those traditional flavors from here that I missed so much from here, and well… we loved it!!, a warm welcoming, smiles and a super Greek joy that made the experience superb! Thank you! Lula’s cheesecake… a must try (save some room while you eat)
I had the pleasure of trying the gyro and the avgolemono soup at this establishment once, and I must say it was a delightful experience. The flavors were delicious, and it left me thoroughly satisfied.
What added to the enjoyment was the fantastic vibe and atmosphere of the neighborhood. It created the perfect setting for a memorable dining experience.
Absolutely DESPICABLE customer service. The waitress was the absolute rudest I have EVER encountered. I dine out very often. This is the WORST customer experience I ever experienced in a restaurant. We asked if we can order a Greek family platter for 4. The waitress acted like she didn’t understand what I was saying. Then, she says we have to order more food. First of all, you cannot demand customers that they have to order more. We had 3 kids 6 and under with us who don’t eat that much. Second, she said “Look at me” while she was explaining that we had to order more. Telling a customer “look at me” while I was clearly already listening and paying attention while looking at the menu is RUDE and disrespectful and aggressive. Also, when she gave me a bowl that I asked for, she literally just stands there holding the bowl out while I was busy feeding my son. No words, nothing. Just standing there with the bowl reached out. My back was turned so I didn’t even see her. That is VERY rude mannerisms and disrespectful. She also came back at the end and said if we needed to pack food away to take home while we were still eating. Another waiter gave me a very judgmental expression when she asked if I wanted to pack my kids’ meal home and I said no. She said your kids will have nothing to eat tomorrow. Wow.
Never coming back here. The workers need to learn how to speak to their customers. It is NOT okay. Completely soured our dinner. Wish I had picked somewhere else.
When I’m craving a healthy and very filling meal, GFK comes to mind. I always get their chicken souvlaki platter which comes with a soup or salad, choice of potatoes, pita, some steamed veggies (it’s different every time I go) and the souvlaki. For choice of potatoes I’ve tried their lemon potatoes which were delicious but their fries are just to die for. Super crispy and crunchy - everything you’d want in fries.
For sides, I’ve had their Spanakopita and goat cheese croquette. The croquettes were a bit pricey for over $10 and you only get 3 croquettes. They were good, but wouldn’t get it again for the price. The spanakopita on the other hand - you get a giant slice that has a very big spinach to phyllo dough ratio.
Service is very home-y feel with very friendly waitresses. However, every time they make some sort of mistake - giving us salad when we ordered soup, charging my card with a different table’s receipt, etc.
If you have room for dessert, def get their cheesecake. It’s not like your typical American cheesecake that’s dense - their cheesecake is light and airy, made with Greek yogurt, and has a raspberry sauce poured over it.
Food was ABSOLUTELY DeLish!!!
Deserts yummy too!!
Service was great! Portions were good.. My only advice is to make sure you let the waitress know (point to) your order. Our waitress gave us 'PLATTER" sized when we ordered the 'slice' or 'stick' so our bill was close to $200 rather than $140-ish...(w/o tip)
It was all good though... Everything was ENJOYED!. We got to take home our left overs. Looking forward to Lunch!
I would definitely go back!
Delicious food, fresh taste. But customer service definitely needs improvement. I've walked in their several times, to see a person on the phone or looking down doing something else for several minutes without a simple greeting or a even a kind gesture of asking for a moment. They make you feel like you're bothering them when minutes go by and I myself had to be the one to stare "hi I'm here to pick up my order" several mins after waiting in front of the counter. I think a kind and friendly hostess when you walk in would go a long . The way they treated me left a bad taste In my mouth and sadly I'm saying this after more than one encounter.
Despite the lady on the phone seeming a little rude and impatient, I proceeded to order for pick up for my family. I got the gyro platter.. was not expecting the broccoli, but I was excited when I saw it. Lemon potato's were great, my gyro was yummy (not oily and not too hard, a couple burnt pieces but that's ok), calamari wasn't too crispy which was wonderful, octopus was juicy, spanakopita was HUGE and lovely and the little avgolemono soup was fantastic!!! I was definitely satisfied with portions and can see why they have other reviews that are positive. When I went there to get the food, the outside looked beautiful! I also wanted to see the woman on the phone and she was actually really nice in person. I really enjoyed this place! Definitely recommend!
